Poetry and art

These are pages from a book of poetry, translations from Chinese by Arthur Waley and illustrated by Cyrus Le Roy Baldridge, first published in 1919. I found this book gathering dust on a shelf in an old basement storage.

The illustrations are striking and the the poetry strongly resembles traditional English verse.

The Ferry

Regret

Watching the Reapers

Plucking the Rushes

The Little Lady of Ching-hsi

Five "Tzu-yeh" Songs
